The Anthropology Department at Wesleyan University invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor from scholars whose research focuses on the “Anthropology of Muslim Worlds” beginning July 1, 2019.
The topical specializations for this position are open, but we have a strong preference for applicants whose work engages one or more of the following: religion/secularism, migration and displacement, gender, militarization and everyday life, the state, the law, humanitarianism, media, and activism and social movements. Scholars working in the Middle East, Africa, Europe, and South and Southeast Asia, and those doing multi-sited ethnography are encouraged to apply.
Wesleyan is a highly selective liberal arts college with strong support for teaching and research; teaching load is 3/2. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses in introductory cultural anthropology, as well as more specialized courses related to their research.
Applicants must have a PhD in anthropology by the time of appointment.
