The International Affairs Program at Skidmore College invites applications for a tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor with expertise in culture, specifically in the intersections of race, gender and class in Latin America and the Caribbean. We are particularly interested in candidates from underrepresented backgrounds that can add to the diversity and excellence of our academic program through their teaching, research, and service. We specifically seek a colleague from the humanities who can offer intermediate and advanced courses in global culture, as well as in the above areas from an international and interdisciplinary humanist perspective. Candidates will additionally be expected to help deliver the program’s core introductory and capstone course, a research methods course, as well as contribute teaching for the College’s First Year Experience and new GenEd curriculum, particularly the Global Cultural Perspectives requirement.
The position carries a teaching load of eighteen faculty workload credits per year (approximately five courses per year). All teaching is at the undergraduate level. Interested candidates must have a PhD completed or expected by September 2019, or ABD with expected completion by the end of 2019. They must also have independent teaching experience, and demonstrate evidence of teaching competence at the undergraduate level, and a promising research program. The application must include a separate statement explaining how the candidate’s teaching interests and pedagogy engage questions of cultural diversity, and how their courses would foster active learning, inclusive discussion, and global awareness.
