The Anthropology Department and Education Studies Program at Hamilton College seek to hire a Visiting Assistant Professor of Anthropology with a specialization in Education.
The appointment will be for a term of two years with the possibility of renewal for an additional two years. PhD or EdD expected in first year of position (in hand preferred) and teaching experience required. The teaching load is five courses annually. The position will be central to the College's minor in Education Studies and will involve teaching two introductory courses in the minor annually, one on theories of education and one on methods. The department encourages candidates trained outside of anthropology to apply, but candidates should be able to demonstrate that they could teach two courses toward the curriculum in anthropology annually. Topic and area specializations are open, but we are especially interested in candidates whose research in education includes a focus on class, race, gender, sexuality, and/or nationality.
Your cover letter should include a brief explanation of how you would teach the introductory theory and methods courses in Education Studies, and also describe how you would contribute to the Anthropology Department's curriculum. Previous experience teaching and working with diverse student populations is an asset. Your cover letter should address ways in which issues of diversity are brought into your teaching, scholarship, and/or service. Hamilton College offers support for research and conference travel.
