The Department of Anthropology at California State University, Fresno, seeks to hire a biophysical anthropologist with research interests in bioarchaeology, human osteology, and forensics. The successful candidate will develop and offer BA-level courses in biophysical anthropology, including courses in the candidate's teaching and research expertise. Other responsibilities will include advising and mentoring students, research, publication, and other scholarly activities, as well as engaging in university and community service. The successful candidate will work at revitalizing physical anthropology at Fresno State through teaching, student mentoring, research, and grant writing.
The Department of Anthropology emphasizes a four field, applied approach to undergraduate education with a strong tradition of mentoring students and involving them in faculty research.
Required Education: An earned doctorate (PhD) in Anthropology or closely related field by the time of appointment (August 17, 2018) is required.
Required Experience: 1. Demonstrated expertise in bioarchaeology, human osteology, and forensics 2. Applied/practicing orientation 3. Ability to teach broadly within physical anthropology, including courses on human evolution, osteology, forensics, and primatology 4. Commitment to interdisciplinary work and a willingness to build connections with other disciplines on campus, such as criminology and chemistry 5. Commitment to public and applied scholarship and community engagement 6. Ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds
Preferred Qualifications: 1. Teaching experience at the university level and a record of teaching excellence 2. Record of, or potential for, developing grant proposals and attracting external funding 3. Experience in human rights and social justice work 4. Experience with Native American communities and repatriation issues.
