Stanford University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor or a tenured Associate Professor faculty position focused on law and legal institutions of Islam and/or Muslim societies in any time period. The successful applicant for this position will be jointly appointed in the Stanford Law School and one of the following departments within the School of Humanities and Sciences: Anthropology, History, Political Science, or Sociology. The successful applicant will have teaching and advising responsibilities in both the Law School and the School of Humanities and Sciences and will also be expected to contribute to the Abbasi Program in Islamic Studies’ curricular and outreach efforts.
The exact structure of the appointment, including the share of the appointment in Law and Humanities and Sciences, will depend on the successful candidate. We have a preference for candidates who hold both a J.D. and Ph.D., but will also consider candidates with a Ph.D. and substantive expertise in Islamic law and institutions.
